About
Qurtuba Circle is an independent platform for essays, lectures, and discussions across literature, philosophy, science, and culture. It is built on the conviction that serious intellectual work should not remain confined within universities or specialist circles, but should be made accessible to a wider public without losing depth or rigor.
The name Qurtuba recalls Córdoba at a time when knowledge was given free rein and a culture of inquiry was actively sustained. Scholars worked across disciplines, and intellectual life was not limited by institutional boundaries. Qurtuba Circle draws from this spirit as a working principle: that knowledge should circulate openly and invite engagement.
The platform brings research and academic thinking into a more public space, where ideas can be read, heard, and discussed with clarity and care. Through essays and lectures, Qurtuba Circle aims to make knowledge accessible while maintaining precision, depth, and seriousness of thought. Over time, Qurtuba Circle aims to expand its work through regular publications, structured lecture programs, and the development of educational initiatives. It seeks to grow into a sustained space for learning and intellectual exchange, extending beyond a digital platform into a broader, organized engagement with knowledge.

From the Editor
Qurtuba Circle began with a simple concern: that much of what is worth studying is often available only through universities, paid journals, or closed academic networks. Access is limited, and even when material is available, it is not always presented in a way that invites sustained reading or study outside those spaces. This platform places such work in a public setting, where it can be read, followed, and returned to over time
- Essays based on research and close study
- Lecture series on specific topics and texts
- Reading lists organised by subject or theme
- Written responses and discussions around published work
- Future courses built around sustained study
